Some 2000 years later, we remain confused. Last week, I refused to read the Vision of the Valley of Dry Bones Hebrew Scripture piece in my church because I am now aware of the terrifying results of Christian Zionism. My doubt is so much greater than my faith these days, and I wonder what we are meant to truly take from these stories in our complicated present.

And I think some powerful Christians engage in a horrible misuse of your mission. “WHO?” you ask. Can we take a peek at the theology-driven “spiritual obligation” of US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee? Or Rubbio, who notes that Iran is run by “religious fanatic lunatics?” while some of our US troops report that they were urged by a commander that the Iran [epstein] war is “part of God’s divine plan.” These examples reveal the dangers of conflating faith with political power.

Right, that’s right, Mary Magdalene! Let me shut both eyes as I march into Holy Week and feel around the bottom of my truck seats for a few extra coins to feed my hungry tank, which now costs almost $1 more a gallon. And, my $1,200 gas alternative ebike is now a relic because the tariffs shut the company down. High gas prices + no ebike = Not even close to “America First.”

The Judas spirit is alive and well in Congress! How many silver coins do they all get to betray the American citizens? And it is on both sides- Judas Johnson and Judas Jeffries. Yeppers, PBS reports that 40% of Project 25 has been completed, and them dems knew about it since 2022. As reported in The Hill in 2024...”The democrats’ exact strategy for pushing back against 2025...remains up in the air.”

Yeah! You hung in there for Easter Carols. So what’s the point? Jesus Christ Superstar was released as a film in 1973:
And, also in the US in 1973, Roe v. Wade made abortion legal, the Paris Peace Accords were signed ending the Vietnam War, the American Indian Movement occupation of Wounded Knee began, the first PFLAG meeting was held, and the World Trade Center opened... oh, and the Watergate hearings began. 48 people were convicted of crimes, and 20 corporations pleaded guilty to illegal campaign contributions.
2022: Roe is overturned, and in many states, women risk legal repercussions if they seek an abortion. 2026:The US has been involved in at least 10 major wars since Vietnam, [oops, 11 now.] Native Americans experience the highest poverty rate of any minority in the good old USA. Project 2025 reverses anti-discrimination for LGBTQ protections. And let’s remember that trump “predicted” the World Trade Center attack, and not forget that NOT ONE PERSON HAS BEEN ARRESTED IN THE US over epstein-related filth and crimes against children and women.

Yes, it is Holy Week, and we are at war. Not just with Iran but with each other. We, too, have quite a problem here. We need a miracle. It won’t be a man on a donkey, or a political figure. It will be a movement.
My favorite theologian, Wendell Berry, wrote a poem that could help all of us be better people. Even if you don’t like my Easter Carols, you might like “The Mad Farmer.” We need to be mad farmers this Easter, and every day.

Go with love to the fields. Lie down in the shade. Rest your head in her lap. Swear allegiance to what is your nighest thoughts.
As soon as the generals and the polititcos can predict the motions of your mind, lose it.
Leave it as a sign to mark the false trail, the way you didn’t go. Be like the fox who makes more tracks than necessary, some in the wrong direction.
